Major Dutch NGO joins IATI

  • Oct. 23, 2012

The International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) is pleased to have recently welcomed the Dutch NGO HIVOS as the first major development organisation outside of the UK to publish their data through the initiative.  Releasing its entire project related information in accordance to the internationally agreed standard, the publication of ‘open data’ enables others to verify and compare activities of development organizations, governments and multilateral institutions.

HIVOS, a Humanist Institute for Development Cooperation, supports projects through financial support, cooperation, networking, advocacy, education and since 2007 has run its own multi-disciplinary knowledge programme integrating knowledge development, knowledge transformation and knowledge application on specific topics with academic institutes, think tanks and a wide array of civil society practitioners and cooperates with many partner organisations throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Dutch civil society organisations have played a vital role in supporting IATI, lead by the efforts of PARTOS, the trade association for international cooperation in the Netherlands. The association represents the interests of 120 Dutch private development organisations active in the field of poverty reduction, humanitarian aid, human rights and sustainable development.

While naturally welcoming this good news, here at IATI we are keen to see more Dutch civil society organisations taking a lead from HIVOS and join the swelling ranks of IATI compliant development organisations– 92 organisations have so far published to IATI and the list continues to grow.
