USAID becomes separate IATI publisher

  • May 5, 2017

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is now publishing IATI data as a separate organisation, making information on their aid spending easier to find and use. USAID’s data was previously included with all other US government spending under a single IATI registry account.

“The U.S. Government is committed to improving the quality and enhancing the use of U.S. Foreign Assistance information through various platforms, including IATI”

In a statement on the change, the U.S. Department of State and USAID said:

“The U.S. Government is committed to improving the quality and enhancing the use of U.S. Foreign Assistance information through various platforms, including IATI.  To advance this commitment, the Department of State and USAID would like to announce that USAID will be registered to IATI as a separate publisher begin”

“The publisher ID will now be ‘usaid’ and the organization identifier will be US-GOV-1.  Importantly, the new organization identifier means all USAID activities ID’s will be updated with this new identifier.

“Historically, USAID activities were disaggregated by sectors through a sector code being embedded in the IATI activity identifier.  This made it difficult for users to aggregate activities and diminished the usefulness of the data.  To resolve this issue, the new activity identifier will also no longer have an embedded sector code. We hope that this update will allow for an enhanced user experience of USAID IATI data.”
